Maya Webne-Behrman

A vocalist and violinist, Maya Webne-Behrman has collaborated with many ensembles throughout her musical journey: from improvisatory folk bands to internationally touring orchestras. Under the instruction of her Professors Paul Rowe (voice) and David Perry (violin), Maya received a B.M. in Violin Performance with an additional emphasis in Vocal Performance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She served as Cantor for many years at the Sha’arei Shamayim synagogue and has appeared as a soloist and chorister with the Madison Early Music Festival, Madison Opera, and the Madison Savoyards. Maya is co-founder of the Mendota Consort, a 5-voice ensemble specializing in renaissance polyphony, and is currently working with the early music ensemble ARTEK to develop their new program, Madrigal Madness. Presently, Maya studies violin with Burton Kaplan, voice with Deborah Birnbaum, and teaches at Silver Music on the Upper West Side.
